We had a wonderful last afternoon in Reception today. Mr Siezckarek arranged for a wonderful treat for the whole school. Everyone in school got an ice cream to say well done for such a great year! 🙂
As you can see we loved them. Then it was back to the classroom to get ready for our last home time in Foundation Stage and to get ready to turn into Year Ones.
A special magic curtain appeared and we all walked through it. It turned us into proper Year Ones (no more practising) so when we come back in September we’re in Miss Breeze’s Y1 Topaz. We can’t wait! Miss Parker, Miss Deakin and Miss Hukin said we’ve got to make sure we pop back into Onyx class and tell everyone how we’re getting on.
The teachers would like to say another huge well done to all the children for such an amazing year. You’ve all grown so much and learnt something new everyday. We so all so proud of you all and are sure you’ll continue to progress just as much in Year One.
Have a wonderful Summer 🙂
After we’d been busy making our special transition book for the Nursery Kids (see post here) we decided that we wanted to find out more about Y1 and make a book for ourselves. We’d already been on one visit so had some ideas but there were other things we weren’t sure about, like assembly and dinner bands.
We thought of what we wanted to know and then sent some investigators to Y1 to find out. It was also another chance to have a sneaky look at our new classrooms and see our new teachers.
If you want to see the book we made you can find it by clicking on this sentence!
We are really going to miss the children in Onyx Class next year as they move up to Year one but we know they are going to be superstars! Make sure you pop back and let us know how you’re getting on everyone 🙂
It was very exciting last week as we went to visit Year One for the first time. We found out who our new teachers are going to be.
Y1 Topaz Class is Miss Breeze and Miss Bibby.
Y1 Jet Class is Miss Hart, Mrs Clay and Mrs Reed.
Miss Hart is coming to join Prince Edward from a different school but we were very lucky because she was able to come and meet us and will be here for our next Y1 visits too.
Miss Hukin and Miss Beckett will also be in Year One some of the time too .
We had a fabulous time in our new classes finding out what there is to do in Year One and meeting everybody. We found out lots of things are going to be just the same and only somethings will be different. We are going to be all mixed up with the children from Garnet class to make our new Y1 classes.
We will get lots of other opportunities to learn about our new classes and teachers. We are going to another visit on Wednesday 5th July in the afternoon. On this day we will need collecting from our new classrooms. Then on Wednesday 12th July we’re going in the morning so will need dropping off in Year One in the morning. This will give our families chance to see where our new classrooms are as well as us getting to go again.
The Onyx Class teachers are very sad to see us go but they know that we are going to be Y1 superstars! 🙂
Today we had our Graduation Ceremony to celebrate completing Foundation Stage and being ready to move to Key Stage One. It was great to see so many families there, we only had standing room left!
First the children each talked about their favourite things in Foundation Stage or something they were looking forward too. Here are some of their comments…
Then the children each got their certificate and a surprise from Mr Siezckarek while everyone clapped to say well done.
Everybody was excited to see their surprises.
Finally, we watched the special video to look back on our time in Foundation Stage this year. If you want to watch it again it is on the school website. You can find it quickly by clicking on this link.
Well done everybody on such a good year. We’re all very proud of you and will miss you when you go to Year One. We know you’ll be superstars!
As we get ready for being Y1s we’ve been to our new classes a few times to have a practice. It’s been great to meet our new teachers properly, to explore our new classrooms and to see which other children will be in our new class.
There are two Y1 classes – Jet class with Miss Mason and Mrs Raynes and Topaz class with Mrs Ainsley (Mon/Tues), Mrs Wells (Wed-Fri) and Mrs Pym. We’ll also see Miss Morris in Jet class and Miss Deighton and Mrs Reed in Topaz class.
Look at some of the fun things we did when we went to practice being Y1s.
We we took our new teachers special presents when we went to visit so they’ll be up in our classrooms when we start in Y1 for real. We had to do good teamwork to each contribute to the finished artwork.
We had a great time in Y1 and are excited for September when we get to go to our new classrooms everyday.
Parents/carers- if you’ve any questions about your child starting in Y1 please ask either the teachers in Onyx class or you could walk round to see the Y1 teachers at home time by their classrooms.
For our last week in Reception, Miss Parker and the other teachers let us choose what learning we wanted to do. We had a look back at this blog and found some of our favourite activities from the year. We had to do some negotiating and comprising when different children wanted different things out and we had to make sure there weren’t just dinosaurs and fairies everywhere! Once we had decided what we would like in each area Miss Parker got busy getting everything we needed out.
Then it was our turn to get busy. We loved having all our favourite things back out.
Miss Parker will be making sure our Y1 teachers know all of our favourite activities and our favourite interests.
We received an invitation from Year One to go to their French Breakfast. It would be a good chance to get to know them all better before we move up to their corridor in September. Almost straight away we wrote a letter back to say “Yes please!”
We were all very excited. The Breakfast was great. We got to eat croissant and baguettes with cheese, ham or jam. It was all delicious. I think most children’s favourite was the hot chocolate though!
We also got to ask the Year Ones all about what it was like in Topaz and Jet classes.
Thank you Year One! We can’t wait to be in Key Stage One with you!
