Our Writer of the Week surprised everyone this week with his writing. He not only wrote one sentence but he wrote a whole book! He decided he wanted to make a book and about one of his favourite things- CARS! There were pages about petrol cars, diesel cars and even electric cars. He did a great job of sounding out to spell his words and use the phoneme strip to find the letters he didn’t know. Well done!
Our Mathematician of the Week always does everything with a smile on her face. She did a wonderful job this week helping everyone solve problems with numbers. She worked hard to workout which numbers added together made ten.
Its hard to believe we’ve into our last half term of the year and the children will soon be going to Y1. It doesn’t seem two minutes since September when we were all just settling in. However, when you look at the children’s learning and realise the progress they have made it is easy to see they are ready for the next step in school.
Our Writer of the Week has really been applying himself to writing recently. He is able to concentrate for longer and consequently write the sentences we are learning in Phase 4 Phonics. I’m sure you can read his sentence here and see where he has written longer words such as camp and tent independently.
Our Mathematician of the Week surprised all the teachers this week in the Maths sessions. He usually stays quiet but this week could tell us all about the coins and was not only able to count the 1p coins but could count the 2p coins and a mixture of both coins as well. This is a hard skill to master but he really showed his confidence and competence with it.
Well done to both boys 🙂
Wow! I can’t believe that it is Week 4 of the half term already. No wonder the children are showing us such amazing learning in all areas of the classroom.
Our Mathematician of the Week got her award this week not just for the great counting she did with the 1p and 2p coins but for her great attitude to learning. She said:
“I was doing this and I found it a little bit hard but when I had a try I didn’t find it hard anymore.”
She really grew in confidence using the Numicon to help her count the coins and work out which ones she needed to make the given total. Well done and don’t forget to help mummy and daddy counting the coins next time you’re at the shops!
Our Writer of the Week this week amazed us all with her writing. Miss Parker knew she could do it but she doesn’t often choose to write so it was a lovely surprise to see she could do it so well. She formed the sentences she wanted to write herself and then was able to write each word listening for the sounds and writing the tricky words she knew. She then had to think really hard to read her writing back to the whole class. Great job!!!
Our Mathematician of the Week was working on sequencing numbers this week. She was able to look at the numbers and complete the sequence with the missing numbers. This involved counting in ones and twos and even counting backwards. She could confidently write the correct missing number and check her answer on a number line. Well done!
Our Writer of the Week also displayed her skills on the interactive whiteboard. She was drawing pictures of her family and then labelling them using her writing skills to sound out and write the words. She wasn’t finished there she decided she could write a sentence about them as well. Great job!
A big well done to both our winners this week- you’re getting even more ready for Year One! 🙂
Our Writer of the Week this week has made so much progress. His Nursery teachers would be so impressed at how good his writing has become. He is now writing a full sentence on his own using the resources around him independently. What a fabulous job he has done- he’s definitely ready for Year One!
Our Mathematician of the Week has been working particular hard to record her ideas. She was able to sort the buttons into different colours and find a way to record it on paper. She wrote all the colours and how many of each she had. After she’d done this she was able to work out which one she had most of. Great job! Yet another example of how Onyx class are getting ready for Year One! 🙂
What a fabulous job from our Mathematician this week. He amazed Miss Parker with his super maths skills which came from a self initiated problem he set himself. He was trying to make sure he had 8 of each of the colours. In talking about how many he had how many more he had when he found more and how many more he needed he showed he had really mastered the calculation skills needed to solve the problem. (He was handed the certificate by his friend who was in the role of teacher at this time.)
The Writer of the Week is another child who is now able to show us that everything we have learnt about writing all year is really starting to click and she is able is write her own sentences. Its been so amazing to see her confidence grow and grow.
