Celebrating Mother’s Day

On Monday we invited all our Mums and carers to school to say thank you for looking after us. We all met in the Main Hall with the rest of Foundation Stage and Key Stage One.

We sang some songs to our Mums and carers to say how special we thought they were and how much we loved them. In Foundation Stage we sang a song called Skidamarink. Can you remember the words? We sang a song with everyone else as well called My Mum’s One in a Million.

When we’d finished singing it was time for us to give our gifts to our Mums and carers. When we talked about Mother’s Day in class lots of the children said that their mummies liked flowers so we decided to plant them some seeds. All that they needed to do was add water and watch what happens now. What do you think will happen?

We’d worked hard to write our Mother’s Day cards. You can see everybody’s on last week Writer of the Week post here.

A big thank you to all the Mums and carers who came to support the children at this event. The hall was packed to bursting and it was lovely to see so many of you 🙂

Safety Week 2017

We had a very busy Safety Week this year. As you know already we had a visit from Don and his ambulance on Monday. He helped us think about how to keep ourselves safe and how the ambulance and paramedics can help if we do have an accident. You can read more in the post here. We also wrote our own blog post about the visit which you can see here.

On Wednesday when we went to the Hall things looked a bit different. It didn’t look safe at all. What do you think would have happened if we’d have done PE without checking? It helped us think that we must always decide if something looks safe before we use it.

We did a lot of thinking all week about online safety and keeping safe when we use the computers. Tuesday was Safer Internet Day in school. We read the book Penguin Pig by Stuart Spendlow which helped us think about if we should believe everything we see on the computer. You can access the Penguin Pig website here and even find out how to get your own copy for home.

We also read Webster’s Bedtime by Hannah Waley. Webster finds it really hard to turn all his devices off at bedtime which stops him getting to sleep.

We’ve been seeing Hector on our computer all year but we watched a video with him in and talked about how he can help keep us safe too. You can watch the Hector’s World videos here.

We started to look at the different blogs of our friends in the different classes in school. The other classes also started sending us messages on this blog and telling us what they thought. When we’re writing comments on others blogs and also writing our own posts we have to remember the Blog Rules to make sure everyone stays safe and happy. You can see our Blog Rules here. If you want to look at the different blogs of the classes in school you can find them on our home page.

On Friday we had some special visitors from Y3 and Y4 come and see us. They had been making videos to help FS2 learn about staying safe online with Miss Croxall. It was great to have them come and visit and also to learn more about staying safe from them.

Parents/ carers- if you want to know more about what your child said and what their friends said about being safe online look in our Floor Book in class. The children made some interesting comments.

What have we been learning?

  • how to stay safe online.
  • that you can’t believe everything you see on a computer.
  • to be as kind on computers as we are in real life.

How can you help at home?

A Singing Start- A Recap

Do you remember we told you about the music sessions were having with Martin? The children loved learning new songs and having fun with music.

You can read the original post here.

The children in Nursery (FS1) also enjoyed sessions with Martin and there was the after school Shake, Rattle and Roll Music Club that we loved going to with our parents and families.

Miss Hulme has made a video all about the Singing Start sessions we’ve had in school. You can watch it by either looking at the Diamond Class blog post or going straight to the video here.

Thanks Miss Hulme. It was great watching back the fun we had and remembering when we learnt the songs. We are still singing them in class and learning some new ones.

A Visit from the Ambulance

We had a special visitor on the Monday of Safety Week. Don from the Ambulance service came to see everyone in FS and KS1. First of all he talked to us in the Hall. We found out about his job and how he keeps people safe. Then we got to see his special uniform and some children got to try it on.

After that we went outside to see the ambulance. Some of us were a bit worried about going in the ambulance because we’d never been in one before but everyone had a turn. We thought of some questions to ask Don like, ‘How does the ambulance know where to go?’ and ‘Why is there a snake on the ambulance badge?’ Can you remember what Don told us?

We also had a good look around the outside of the ambulance. Don put the lights on and the siren. It was really loud. Can you remember why is has to be really loud?

It was great having Don in school and we hope he can come again sometime.

Thank you Don for coming to see us!

Judo Fun

We had a lovely surprise on Friday when Gareth from British Judo came to school. We’d been hearing about some of the other children in school who’d been to sessions with him and it sounded really good fun. We were excited for our turn.

We had to be really good at listening to instructions and doing what Gareth told us. He told us we could be bears, wiggly worms or frogs and this would make our bodies strong. Then we learnt how to fall over properly! We had to make our bodies strong and fall over backwards with a roll. Everyone did amazingly well and Gareth was very impressed.

WELL DONE EVERYONE!!!
