Miss Deakin awarded this weeks Mathematician of the Week and Writer of the Week as Miss Parker spent a lot of time out of class. She was particularly impressed with these two children who showed independent learning skills in their Maths and Writing.
Our Mathematician of the Week did some amazing estimating when trying to count the jellybeans in the jar. Its hard to make a sensible estimate rather than a silly guess when there are lots of small objects but our Mathematician was able to do it.
You’re right it’s not been that long since our Writer of the Week last won this award. He has continued his hard work and kept on building his confidence into a second week and Miss Deakin noticed his hard work. What a fabulous job!
Our Mathematician of the Week showed great perseverance with a task she was finding difficult. She was able to keep going and find out the answers she needed.
Our Writer of the Week was writing down everything! We couldn’t stop him writing. This was so lovely to see.
Well done everybody 🙂
We are so proud of the children in Onyx class this week. They are really starting to demonstrate how much they have learnt during the school year and show how far they have progressed. To celebrate their amazing successes we are going to start awarding the Mathematician of the Week to the child who shows the most progress or best attitude to their learning in Maths and Writer of the Week to the child who shows the most progress or best attitude to in their writing. This is not just in activities with adults but in their independent learning as well.
We were particularly pleased with these children this week. Our Mathematician of the Week was spotted all week really engaging with Maths activities in the classroom. He was interested in not only adding numbers together-a lot of which he remembers by rote- but also in making patterns with the beads. Our Writer of the Week has not stopped writing all week. She even wrote a note to Miss Deighton asking for slime in the classroom and because she wrote it so well and everyone could read it this week the children are making slime.
Well done to both these children. We can’t wait to see what amazing learning happens this week and who gets the award on Friday.
Its been another busy week in Onyx class. We’ve continued our learning about Going on a Bear Hunt but have also been thinking about volcanoes! We made up a new part to the story where there is a volcano….
Uh oh! A volcano.
A firey lava filled volcano!
We can’t go over it,
We can’t go under it,
We’ll have to go through it.
We then had to think of some ways that we could go through the volcano! Or if there was another better way to get past. There’s some more information about our volcano learning in another post coming soon- keep an eye out for it!
Mathematician of the Week-
Our Mathematician of the week did some great work with the 3D shapes. He built a rocket and was able to talk about the different shapes that he had used to make his rocket. Well done!
Writer of the Week–
Our writer this week worked really hard to get this award. He was able to think of what he wanted to write and think carefully about the sounds to write independently. He was able to write the tricky word ‘the’ from memory in his writing. Now he is going to try and include some finger spaces in his writing. Fabulous job!
This week we even had a new award! It won’t be given out every week but when the teachers spot some amazing Science learning in school, or at home, there is a Great Scientist Award which will be given out. This week it was awarded to………….. the whole of Onyx Class for the fantastic learning they did about volcanoes.
Look out for the post coming soon which will tell you more about our Volcano learning.
We’ve had some fabulous awards this week. As well as Mathematician of the Week we’ve started celebrating Writer of the Week.
Mathematician of the Week-
What a fabulous job our mathematician did this week. He really persevered and worked hard to get better at pattern making with repeating patterns. By the time we did it again later in the week he was able to finish the patterns independently. Great job!
Writer of the Week–
We couldn’t stop our writer of the week writing this week. She was writing everyday! She really enjoyed writing our story of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. We’re really proud of how she is writing with such confidence independently.
Well done everyone on a great first week back at school. Its been a wonderful start to 2017 in Onyx class 🙂
We found out this week who had the best attendance for Autumn term in Onyx class after October half term. Look at all the children who had 100% attendance for November and December…
We also got the good news that Onyx class had the best class Punctuality and Attendance for the whole of Autumn Term in KS1 and Foundation Term. Miss French will be coming soon to tell us what our special well done treat is. We can’t wait to find out!
Well done everyone. Lets hope that Spring Term is just as successful.
What an excellent effort by our Mathematician of the Week this week recognising numbers, matching them and ordering them. Can you order the numbers to 5? Can you order the numbers to 10? Can you order all the numbers to 20? Don’t forget to let us know about all the learning you’ve been doing at home on a WOW moment and hand it into class. You could email us and let us know instead.
We went to Special Mentions Assembly for the first time this week. It is always on a Friday afternoon and everyone in the whole school goes. We get to sit at the front as we’re the youngest children there.
In Special Mentions Assembly, Mr Sieczkarek and Miss French give out special mentions certificates to some of the children in school. This week we were very lucky as everyone in Onyx Class (and Garnet Class) got a certificate to say well done on such a wonderful start to full time school.
This week we will start getting individual mentions in Onyx Class. We’ll let you know if your child is getting a mention and you are invited to come to Assembly to see them receive it. I wonder who it will be! There will be 3 special mentions linked to our school values and then all the children who have earned a reading certificate as well. Look out on Thursday and Friday morning to see if its your child. It will then be our turn fortnightly to get certificates in Assembly.
This week’s Mathematician of the Week was so engrossed, she didn’t even know Miss Parker was watching her do her amazing maths. She was sat sorting the shapes in the Maths Area talking to herself the whole time about what she was doing. She even talked through putting the shapes in the wrong place then switched them to the correct place herself
(We talked in class about how she was sorting the shapes into colours not ordering them)
Well done! We’ll be looking for lots more Maths next week.
We are so proud of our Mathematician of the week this week. She did an amazing job of ordering all the numbers to 10 and finding the matching Numicon.
Well done! I wonder if it will be your turn next week. What wonderful mathematical thinking will you show us?
