Books at Bedtime Week 3

For the last week of Books at Bedtime we had a whole celebration day in school. We were all allowed to come to school in our pyjamas! There was a special assembly which Miss Varley held in the main hall with all of FS2 and KS1. Our Grand Prize Winner was announced and she chose a whole collection of Julia Donaldson books as her prize. IMG_0371

We had a storytelling session with our school storyteller Andy Messer which everyone loved. We were all laughing out loud at the story although one part was much scarier.


We also got to have a storytelling session with hot chocolate in the classroom and share some of our favourite stories. One of our friend’s favourite books was in Polish so we had to ask his sister to come and read it to us because Miss Parker struggled with all the pronunciation! We noticed there were lots of books on dinosaurs- maybe we’ll have to learn about them soon…

Books At Bedtime Week 1

Every child in Foundation Stage and Key Stage One was given a Books at Bedtime card last Wednesday. They had to read a Bedtime Story with their grown up every night this week and write down which one they had read. Today was the day we had to bring them back to school. We put them all in a big pile, closed our eyes and picked a winner. Look who won!!!

She got to go and see Mrs Ainsley and choose a book from the box. It was hard choosing from so many great books but finally she settled on a dinosaur book.

Don’t forget to read your Bedtime Stories this week and you’ll get to go in the prize draw next Wednesday if you bring your card back to school. Then the week after its the big Prize Draw.


Y1 Investigators- Download the Y1 Transition Book

After we’d been busy making our special transition book for the Nursery Kids (see post here) we decided that we wanted to find out more about Y1 and make a book for ourselves. We’d already been on one visit so had some ideas but there were other things we weren’t sure about, like assembly and dinner bands.

We thought of what we wanted to know and then sent some investigators to Y1 to find out. It was also another chance to have a sneaky look at our new classrooms and see our new teachers.

We are really going to miss the children in Onyx Class next year as they move up to Year one but we know they are going to be superstars! Make sure you pop back and let us know how you’re getting on everyone 🙂


Super Sports Day

Friday was our Sports Day. We had a fabulous time along with Key Stage One down on the MUGA completing a range of different activities. First we found out which team we were in and which grown up we were with. It was good because we got mixed up with lots of kids from all the other classes. Then it was down to the MUGA to start the different activities. We had ten to do in total with a couple of rest stations.

Sports Day was even more exciting this year as our parents/ carers got to come and watch us. There were 75 parents/ carers in total which is fantastic to see. Thanks to all that came. A big thank you also the the Y6 kids who came to help us and Miss Varley who organised everything.

Once we’d done all the activities we went back to the Main Hall to find out who won. All the points every team scored were added up and the winning teams were announced. There were special certificates for the kids in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Everyone else got a certificate to say well done.

What have we been learning?

  • to take part in a team with children from a range of classes.
  • to participate in a range of sporting activities.
  • about the effects of exercise on our bodies.
  • to support others engaged in sporting activities.

How can you continue the learning at home? 

  • have a mini-sports day at the park with your friends. 
  • talk about the effects of exercise on your body, for example, when walking home or walking up stairs. 
  • talk about how to cool down when you get hot during sports activities, such as taking off jumpers when hot and drinking cool water. 

Father’s Day Fun!

We all had an amazing time on Monday afternoon when we invited all of our dads to school to celebrate Father’s Day. We were allowed to invite any other male member of the family if our dads couldn’t make it but this time mums had to stay at home.

We had such a good time with our dads on the MUGA and ‘park’. Some of us preferred to stay inside the Foundation Stage area and play with our dads there. It was great to see our brothers and sisters in Nursery and Key Stage One as well.

A huge thank you to everyone who came and made our afternoon so successful. We had a total of 49 dads, uncles, grandads and big brothers there  across the whole of FS and KS1!


Celebrating Mother’s Day

On Monday we invited all our Mums and carers to school to say thank you for looking after us. We all met in the Main Hall with the rest of Foundation Stage and Key Stage One.

We sang some songs to our Mums and carers to say how special we thought they were and how much we loved them. In Foundation Stage we sang a song called Skidamarink. Can you remember the words? We sang a song with everyone else as well called My Mum’s One in a Million. 


When we’d finished singing it was time for us to give our gifts to our Mums and carers. When we talked about Mother’s Day in class lots of the children said that their mummies liked flowers so we decided to plant them some seeds. All that they needed to do was add water and watch what happens now. What do you think will happen?

A big thank you to all the Mums and carers who came to support the children at this event. The hall was packed to bursting and it was lovely to see so many of you 🙂



Day 100!!!!!

We have been counting to Day 100 since we first started full time school way back in September. Can you remember our first days at school? Have a look at the blog post from when we started school. Click here to see it. We’ve all done a lot of growing since then and have got a lot cleverer!

We have been putting a straw in our pockets every day since then and marking it off on the hundred square. You can see when we first started on one of our first ever Mathematician of the Week blog post. Click here to see it.

Everyone was very excited that the day had finally come. We’d been planning our promised party for a couple of weeks now!

We did have to do some counting though. We found the easiest ways to count to 100 was to count to ten ten times. Can you see the different ways we have counted in this way?


Some children even measured the KS2 corridor using their steps. They had to predict if they thought there would be 100 steps from the Studio all the way to Miss French’s Office at the other end.


When we found out the steps gave us different measurements we learnt about a metre stick which turned out to have 100 centimetres on it. We’d found another 100! Children had to find objects which were longer or shorter than a metre and record them in their book.

We’d been busy during the week getting ready. Jayden thought we need decorations so got busy making some in the Workshop. We also made some special Day 100 Crowns which meant we had to do lots of counting.


When it got to Wednesday it was time for our party 🙂

Miss Bibby came through from Nursery with a surprise for us. The Nursery kids had been making pizza for their Pizza Day and sent some through for us to have at our party. You can see more about their Pizza Day here.  Thanks Nursery, we thought your pizza was yummy!

We’d thought about the other things we wanted for our party and decided that it couldn’t be a proper party without a chocolate cake and musical statues!

There was one last job to do… we needed to say well done to the rest of the school for their 100 days in school this year. We went to visit every classroom and took them a certificate. They were the same certificates that we got one of each to say well done to us!


What fabulous Day 100! Now we’re interested to know if we will get Day 100.

Don’t forget your Day 100 Homework to bring a collection of 100 items from home. We’ll be putting them on the wall in the classroom for everyone to see. 

What have we been learning? 

  • To count to ten confidently and count out that many objects. 
  • To count in tens to 100 and know what this looks like. 
  • To complete challenges and answer questions. 
  • To measure in different ways and think about which is best. 
  • To think about ourselves as old people and talk about what we might be able to do. 

How can you continue the learning at home? 

  • Try some of the activities at home like counting pennies in towers or throwing the dice. 
  • Count out objects in your home, for example, how many stairs are there on the way to bed? 
  • Count the days until you do something important, like go on holiday, a special visit or until your child’s birthday.
