Our Christmas Workshop 2018

We were all very excited when we came into school on Friday and remembered it was our Christmas Workshop and our families were able to stay with us to make different Christmas crafts.

We decided to run it a little differently in FS2 this year. When we work with the children we expect them to think about what they want to make and then have a go at making it themselves. We gave this message to parents and carers along with some ideas of what they might want to have a go at making.

Everyone then got busy making different crafts in the classroom. The children whose parents and carers were unable to attend joined in too and were able to make their own crafts to take home.

The children and the parents and carers came up with some amazing creations.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who was able to stay. We hope you enjoyed it 🙂

Celebrating Day 100

We have been counting our days in school in September and were so excited when we finally got to Day 100! We had to wait a little bit longer as the Snow Day last week delayed the big day. We have been counting our straws and numbers on our hundred square every day for 100 days!

We did lots of special activities on the day to mark the occasion. There were some activities inside….

and some outside…..

Everyone was most excited about our party though. Some of us had made some special Day 100 hats to wear to our party.

We all had a fabulous day and are looking forward to finding out if we will reach Day 200! What do you think?

Will we have 200 days in Onyx class?

Getting Changed for PE

Today was a very special day in Onyx class, we got changed for PE for the very first time. A huge thank you to all the parents/ carers who sent PE kits to school, nearly everybody had a PE kit. Look how smart we all look….

We all did a fantastic job of getting changed all by ourselves. Miss Parker and Miss Morris only had to help with a few top buttons and some pairs of tights but these are really tricky. Everyone did a great job of remembering where all their clothes were and only putting on the right ones. Some children were even feeling confident enough to help others.

Miss Webster popped in from Nursery and was very impressed with how independent everyone was being.  We showed her the stars we were getting on our Star Cards 🙂

We all loved PE in the Main Hall. We played a game where one of us had to give instructions to everyone else so they knew how to move. We had to listen very carefully and then think how to move in all the different ways. Can you remember all the different ways we had to move?

Don’t forget to leave your child’s PE kit in school and then it’ll be there when we need it again next week. Our Hall session for PE is Thursday mornings.

What we have been learning?

  • To get dressed and undressed ourselves.
  • To listen to instructions.
  • To move in different ways.

How can you continue the learning at home?

  • Let your child get dressed and undressed themselves- it might take longer but they will get quicker!
  • Keep practising with tricky zips and buttons.

Our Last Week in Reception

For our last week in Reception, Miss Parker and the other teachers let us choose what learning we wanted to do. We had a look back at this blog and found some of our favourite activities from the year. We had to do some negotiating and comprising when different children wanted different things out and we had to make sure there weren’t just dinosaurs and fairies everywhere! Once we had decided what we would like in each area Miss Parker got busy getting everything we needed out.

Then it was our turn to get busy. We loved having all our favourite things back out.

Miss Parker will be making sure our Y1 teachers know all of our favourite activities and our favourite interests.

Have you tried any of these activities at home? Have a look at your Christmas tree and talk about what you can see? See if you can make some gingerbread houses and give them to your family as gifts. Enjoy reading Christmas stories together. You can always get some books out of the library to read.image

We hope you enjoyed the Christmas Workshop as much as we did.
