How Are You Feeling Today?

You might have seen the new display in our classroom called How Are You Feeling Today? We look at it twice a day every day to see how everyone is feeling and if they are feeling sad or scared we think of how we can help them. We understand that not everyone will be happy all of the time but we don’t want anyone to be unhappy or worried when we can help them. We also talk about the different ways in which we can be happy. We’ve used the characters from Inside Out to help us understand the different feelings.

These are some of the things we say when we put our pictures onto the different emotions.

As you can see there are still question marks for Disgust. Not many children have chosen this emotion so we’ve not heard many reasons for why you might feel disgust. Can you think of any with your grown ups?

If we do say something that is making us sad or worried there is always a chance for the children to talk to a grown up about it and hopefully they can help. Any serious concerns or worries would be followed up using the correct school procedures and policies.

The children put their pictures up first thing in the morning just before we start our first morning carpet session and then look at them again straight after dinnertime.

The whole school does something similar with the children giving a number out of 10 to say how they are feeling each day.

Please ask if you have any further questions.

Wonderful Wow Moments

Have you seen our wonderful wow moments? It has been great to see the learning that has been happening at home and all the fun things that you have been doing together.

Look at these ones that have been done…

We love to see what you have been doing. It can help us in school to give your child higher levels as there are some things you see at home we don’t see at home. We need to you tell us though and then we can ask the children in school to show us. Be sure to make a note of anything that surprises you or makes you especially proud and let us know on a wow moment. Remember if you want to send pictures to show us you can use our class email address. It will save you having to print them out at home. Please ask if you need to know the email address again.

We ask for at least one wow moment each half term but you can do as many as you want. A big thank you to all the parents and carers who have already shared a wow moment and put it in their child’s space. Most children now have a wow moment in their space. If haven’t done one yet please do it as soon as possible. I am sure there are lots of special achievements your child has done which have made you proud.

As always, please ask us if you have any questions.

Our Class Charter

During our first few days at school we wrote our class charter. Our charter says what we think we should get to do and feel at school. We call these our rights. If we want these things to happen then there are some things we need to do. We call these our responsibilities.

After talking about our rights and responsibilities we recorded our ideas in the floor book.

We decided this is what our class charter should be….

Everyone then had to sign to say they agreed with our charter and that they were going to do their best to make sure they followed their responsibilities. Name writing can be a bit tricky when you’re first starting FS2 but we all tried our best and copied our name card if we needed to.

We’ve put our class charter on the classroom wall so everyone can see it and it will remind them what they agreed to. It means we can show our families as well.

On our first day of school we all made our handprint so we could make a flower altogether. Together we are the best!

Can you remember which colour your handprint was?

What have we been learning?

  • about teamwork and working together.
  • about the importance of following rules and routines.

What can you do to continue the learning at home?

  • talk about other groups you and your child belong to, such as your family.
  • talk about the rules and routines in your house and why it is important we follow them.
