We’ve been practising our Christmas Performance for weeks!
We started practising in the Studio and learning the songs in classrooms then we got to go to the Hall and see where we would do it for real with our families watching.
We got better and better learning to remember our words until the grown ups didn’t need to remind us at all. We remembered our words and acting all by ourselves. We didn’t even need the grown ups to remind us when it was our turn to move.
We did a dress rehearsal when the Y1 and Y3 children to see us and help us practise at saying our words in front of an audience. We also got to try on our costumes for the first time.
Then it was the big day and it was time to show our families our Christmas Show- Whoops a Daisy Angel.
When we went in the big hall it was packed. We ran out of chairs and some of our friends and families had to stand up! It didn’t put us off though…. we were amazing! All the grown ups in school were so so proud of us for putting on our show and remembering all of our words.
Rightly so, our families and friends gave us a MASSIVE clap at the end to say well done and show how proud they were of us. Some of them said we were amazed that we were so confident to stand up in front of all of those people and speak.
Our fun day wasn’t over there though….. Wednesday was also Christmas Dinner day! We were all very excited to try our Christmas dinner and even the teachers had one as well.
You might spot some other school adults in the picture as well. We thought our school Christmas Dinner was yummy.
Our Christmas celebrations are well underway and we can’t wait for some more Christmassy excitement 🙂 We’ll be letting you know what we’ve been up to soon…..
Big thanks to all the parents carers who supported our Performance by not only attending on the day but also providing items for costumes when we asked.
September was our settling in month in Onyx Class. It was lovely to see all the children again after the Summer and start to get to know them better as school started. We started off sharing all the children between the two classes and seeing who became friends with who and where children were best suited. This was a really good way of making sure that Onyx and, our FS2 neighbours, Garnet were both the best classes in school and all the children were happy. Some of our Nursery teachers came to say hi and see how we were getting on too.
These photos were taken on our very first days at school. Look at who we have in Onyx Class:
We also took first day photos of some of the teachers in Onyx and Garnet classrooms.
We had lots of fun getting to know new friends and remembering old ones. We also all loved exploring both our new classrooms and trying out all the great activities. Those children who had been in Nursery enjoyed getting back outside and seeing what was the same. Everyone made a really great start to school and all the teachers commented on how well and how quickly the children settled in.
The children also enjoyed it when we started going for lunch in the big hall. It was exciting but a little bit scary as we’d not done it before. Everyone did great though and all the lunchtime supervisors commented on how impressed they were with the children’s use of cutlery and sitting at the tables. Even Mr Sciezkarek came to see how everyone was getting on. He left very impressed.
Well done everyone on such a great start to school. Don’t forget to keep checking back to see what we’ve been up to.
And don’t forget to let us know what you’ve been doing at home on the class email address. Please ask in class if you’re not sure what it is.
Today was a very special day in Onyx class, we got changed for PE for the very first time. A huge thank you to all the parents/ carers who sent PE kits to school, nearly everybody had a PE kit. Look how smart we all look….
We all did a fantastic job of getting changed all by ourselves. Miss Parker and Miss Morris only had to help with a few top buttons and some pairs of tights but these are really tricky. Everyone did a great job of remembering where all their clothes were and only putting on the right ones. Some children were even feeling confident enough to help others.
Miss Webster popped in from Nursery and was very impressed with how independent everyone was being. We showed her the stars we were getting on our Star Cards 🙂
We all loved PE in the Main Hall. We played a game where one of us had to give instructions to everyone else so they knew how to move. We had to listen very carefully and then think how to move in all the different ways. Can you remember all the different ways we had to move?
Don’t forget to leave your child’s PE kit in school and then it’ll be there when we need it again next week. Our Hall session for PE is Thursday mornings.
What we have been learning?
- To get dressed and undressed ourselves.
- To listen to instructions.
- To move in different ways.
How can you continue the learning at home?
- Let your child get dressed and undressed themselves- it might take longer but they will get quicker!
- Keep practising with tricky zips and buttons.
The Summer is over and we’ve all now started in Onyx class and have been doing a fantastic job of settling in. Miss Parker, Miss Morris and all the other teachers have been so proud of us and how grown up we’ve been. We’ve been having loads of fun exploring our new classroom and the outdoor area. For some of us there haven’t been that many differences from Nursery at Prince Edward but some of us have had to get used to everything being different.
Look at the fun we’ve been having…
We’ve also been learning to use the self serve snack area where we can choose between water and milk each day and have a piece of fruit. We have to remember to wash our hands and put all our rubbish in the bins ourselves.
We also had chance to explore the new outdoor ‘park’ on one of our first days. We’ve been talking about how to make sure we stay safe when we are playing on it and what to do when we can’t reach the next bit. There were lots of determined faces as they children really challenged themselves to be successful. We also talked about how the equipment is only for use in school time when school adults are supervising. Please remember not to allow your child to play on the equipment at the beginning and end of the school day.
At the end of last week we went to the Dinner Hall for our dinners. It was very exciting to be like the big kids and eat our dinner in the Hall. Jayden even said, “School dinners are the best” and Mateo said he was going to have a dinner at school everyday! All the teachers, including Mr Sieczkarek and Mrs Ainsley, were impressed at how well the children coped with all the new routines. We loved seeing some of our older brothers, sisters and friends in the hall and we’re all super excited to go and play outside after our dinner with them next week.
Well done Onyx Class on a fabulous start to the school year! You’re the best! 🙂
Keep checking back to see what we’ve been doing in school.
Once we were all in school we had a visit from the Gingerbread Man! He left a note then ran off round the school so we had to go after him. It was an excellent chance to go and have a look round, especially for the children who hadn’t been in our Nursery.
We followed him to the Library upstairs, the Office, the Hall where we have dinner and back to Nursery to see Miss Hulme. We’d still not caught up with him so after that we had to go back upstairs to the staff room, outside and to Mrs Ainsley’s office. He told us to go to “the classroom which was best” and everyone straight away said our classroom! Thankfully when we got there we found him and he’d brought us some treats.
We had such a good time searching for the Gingerbread Man that we didn’t even realise we were learning where all the different places were in in our school.
