Day 100 Celebrations

We have been counting to Day 100 since our first full day of school all the way back in September. It seems like such a long time ago and we’ve all changed and grown up so much. Can you remember your first day of school? Look back by clicking on this link.

There were lots of different counting activities happening during the day and we’re going to spend the week looking at big numbers. What’s the biggest number you can think of? 

We’re also going to be reading lots of books with big numbers in them.

To celebrate our 100th day in school we had a little party to say well done to all the children. Harrison was overheard at the party saying, “I love this party”. We did all have a really good time 🙂

Celebrating Day 100

We have been counting our days in school in September and were so excited when we finally got to Day 100! We had to wait a little bit longer as the Snow Day last week delayed the big day. We have been counting our straws and numbers on our hundred square every day for 100 days!

We did lots of special activities on the day to mark the occasion. There were some activities inside….

Everyone was most excited about our party though. Some of us had made some special Day 100 hats to wear to our party.

Day 100!!!!!

We have been counting to Day 100 since we first started full time school way back in September. Can you remember our first days at school? Have a look at the blog post from when we started school. Click here to see it. We’ve all done a lot of growing since then and have got a lot cleverer!

We have been putting a straw in our pockets every day since then and marking it off on the hundred square. You can see when we first started on one of our first ever Mathematician of the Week blog post. Click here to see it.

Everyone was very excited that the day had finally come. We’d been planning our promised party for a couple of weeks now!

We did have to do some counting though. We found the easiest ways to count to 100 was to count to ten ten times. Can you see the different ways we have counted in this way?

Some children even measured the KS2 corridor using their steps. They had to predict if they thought there would be 100 steps from the Studio all the way to Miss French’s Office at the other end.

When we found out the steps gave us different measurements we learnt about a metre stick which turned out to have 100 centimetres on it. We’d found another 100! Children had to find objects which were longer or shorter than a metre and record them in their book.

We’d been busy during the week getting ready. Jayden thought we need decorations so got busy making some in the Workshop. We also made some special Day 100 Crowns which meant we had to do lots of counting.

 

When it got to Wednesday it was time for our party 🙂

Miss Bibby came through from Nursery with a surprise for us. The Nursery kids had been making pizza for their Pizza Day and sent some through for us to have at our party. You can see more about their Pizza Day here.  Thanks Nursery, we thought your pizza was yummy!

We’d thought about the other things we wanted for our party and decided that it couldn’t be a proper party without a chocolate cake and musical statues!

There was one last job to do… we needed to say well done to the rest of the school for their 100 days in school this year. We went to visit every classroom and took them a certificate. They were the same certificates that we got one of each to say well done to us!

What fabulous Day 100! Now we’re interested to know if we will get Day 100.

Don’t forget your Day 100 Homework to bring a collection of 100 items from home. We’ll be putting them on the wall in the classroom for everyone to see. 

What have we been learning? 

  • To count to ten confidently and count out that many objects. 
  • To count in tens to 100 and know what this looks like. 
  • To complete challenges and answer questions. 
  • To measure in different ways and think about which is best. 
  • To think about ourselves as old people and talk about what we might be able to do. 

How can you continue the learning at home? 

  • Try some of the activities at home like counting pennies in towers or throwing the dice. 
  • Count out objects in your home, for example, how many stairs are there on the way to bed? 
  • Count the days until you do something important, like go on holiday, a special visit or until your child’s birthday.

Mathematician of the Week- Week 4

Here is our Mathematician of the Week for Week 4. He has been so interested in our counting to Day 100 reminding Miss Parker most days that we needed to do it. He not only knows how many days we have been in school but also how many days there are left until our party on Day 100.

Counting to Day 100!

We’ve been busy counting to Day 100 in Onyx class since we started full-time school in September. Each day we’ve been adding a straw to our counting chart and crossing out the numbers on our number square. This week the day was finally here. Everyone was very excited because they knew that meant a PARTY!!!

To start the day we invited our families into school to do some special Day 100 activities with us. We could do the activities in Onyx classroom but also go to Garnet if we wanted to which doubled the fun.

Look at some of the fun things that we got to do and the best bit was the whole time we were practising our counting to ten and 100!

We had to count out ten of each of the snacks on to the special counting mat which meant we had 100 snacks in total.

Here there were 100 pennies and we had to see how many we could get to stand in one tower before they fell over. When our tower fell over we had to count them and see if we could do more next time. It was trickier than it looked! You could start collecting pennies and see if you could do this activity at home. 

Here we had to throw the dice and colour the corresponding number of squares on the number square until we got to 100. How many throws do you think it took? You could play against a friend and make it a game.

This was a Numicon challenge where you had to cover the Numicon board with the pieces then count how many of each piece you used to create a graph.

We had a great time making our Day 100 crowns. There was a lot to do; first we had to count out ten strips of paper and stamp ten stamps on each. Once we’d done that then we had to make the strips into a crown so we could wear it for the rest of the day. Our parents and carers loved helping us with this one.

This is the activity we wish were real- we had to decide what we would buy with £100! It was hard to decide what to do with all that money. What would you buy with £100? 

We used the iPad to make us look 100 years old. We took pictures of each other and our grown ups and used a special app to make us look older. I wonder if this is what we will look like in 95 years time??? What do you think? 

Once our parents and carers went home we still had lots of fun… In Maths we thought about what we could do for 100 seconds. It was longer than we thought but we managed to jump for 100 seconds and then jump for 100 seconds. It made us tired and our hearts were beating really fast. We found it much more difficult to freeze for 100 seconds- try it at home and see if you can do it!

Then, at the end of the day. we had our party. There was cake and some dancing.

Now we’ve got to keep counting to see which day it’ll be when we get ready to go to Year One. What day do you think it will be? How many days will we spend in Onyx class in total?

Celebrating Day 100!

Can you believe we’ve been in full time school for 100 days? We’ve been counting down since the very first day using our straws and marking the numbers off on the 100 square. Everybody has been getting very excited in the last couple of weeks as we’ve realised it’s getting closer and now the day has arrived!

We got so excited because we’d been promised a party on Day 100! We all had a fabulous time at our special party especially our Day 100 cake.
