Christmas Celebrations Part 1- Performance and Dinner

We’ve been practising our Christmas Performance for weeks!

We started practising in the Studio and learning the songs in classrooms then we got to go to the Hall and see where we would do it for real with our families watching.

We got better and better learning to remember our words until the grown ups didn’t need to remind us at all. We remembered our words and acting all by ourselves. We didn’t even need the grown ups to remind us when it was our turn to move.

We did a dress rehearsal when the Y1 and Y3 children to see us and help us practise at saying our words in front of an audience. We also got to try on our costumes for the first time.

Then it was the big day and it was time to show our families our Christmas Show- Whoops a Daisy Angel.

When we went in the big hall it was packed. We ran out of chairs and some of our friends and families had to stand up! It didn’t put us off though…. we were amazing! All the grown ups in school were so so proud of us for putting on our show and remembering all of our words.

Rightly so, our families and friends gave us a MASSIVE clap at the end to say well done and show how proud they were of us. Some of them said we were amazed that we were so confident to stand up in front of all of those people and speak.

Our fun day wasn’t over there though….. Wednesday was also Christmas Dinner day! We were all very excited to try our Christmas dinner and even the teachers had one as well.

You might spot some other school adults in the picture as well. We thought our school Christmas Dinner was yummy.

Our Christmas celebrations are well underway and we can’t wait for some more Christmassy excitement 🙂 We’ll be letting you know what we’ve been up to soon…..

Big thanks to all the parents carers who supported our Performance by not only attending on the day but also providing items for costumes when we asked.

Thank You!

Our Fabulous Floor Book

You might have seen our Floor Book in the classroom or have heard your children talking about it. There have also been a few photos on this blog of some of the pages from our Floor Book.

Here is a page from our floor book back from when we went to Cannon Hall…

We talk about what we want to learn on a Monday morning and then again on a Friday afternoon.

We start thinking what we want to learn in a  Friday session. We are able to talk about the learning from the week previously and then decide where we want to take it next. By Monday we’ve been able to think about it some more and really focus in on what we want to learn. Miss Parker helps us think of some questions that we can answer and use as the focus for our learning that week. Our floor book time can happen at any time though. If we start having an interesting conversation it will go in our floor book to record our thoughts and learning.

Sometimes someone will have said something during the week which gives us an idea. This is how we started thinking and learning about Camouflage when Lacey made a comment about her camouflaged maths book.

Sometimes someone will have said something a few weeks ago and that leads our learning. This is how we knew we were going to be learning about Ramadan when we talked about when Eid was.

Sometimes we think of a totally new idea about something that we find interesting. This is like when we learnt about Stickers.

Sometimes we read a story and it give us another idea. This is like when we read the story of The Hueys and the New Jumper and it triggered the idea of costumes in Aissata’s mind.

Sometimes someone brings something to school and this starts us thinking about something new. This happened when Miss Parker brought the Tadpoles to school.

Sometimes there is a themed week in school and we have to think about the theme that our year group has been given. We try and make it as interesting as possible, like when we learnt about Chocolate for Fair-trade Week and Wall-E for Environment Week.

Sometimes our learning is linked to current events, such as EURO 2016 when we did lots of learning about football and the different countries the teams came from.

Who knows what we’ll learn abut next! It will be up to the children though…

We love it when our parents and carers look at our floor books with us and we can talk about what we have been learning. Its a really good way of finding out what your child has been learning and doing when they come home and they tell you ‘nothing’!

We love it even more when our parents and carers make comments about our floor book and link it to our learning at home.

PLEASE COME AND LOOK AT OUR FLOOR BOOK ANYTIME AND SEE WHAT WE’VE BEEN DOING.

ITS BEEN A BUSY, BUSY YEAR!

Our Christmas Performance 2015

Everyone did an amazing job last week performing our Christmas Show for 2015. Everyone worked really, really hard to get ready for the show and to remember their lines, acting scenes and all the songs. We practised every day for a week to make sure it was ready in time then the big day arrived.

Everyone was a little nervous waiting in Garnet class in our special costumes but then it was time to go to the Hall.

Then it was time for the show to start. Lots of our families came, so many that we didn’t have enough chairs! When we did the second show on Wednesday lots of people came to see it again!

We did a fantastic job! All our teachers were so proud of us for remembering everything and at the right time. So were our families, look at some of the lovely comments they wrote…

You can see how proud our families were of us.

A big well done to everyone!!! 🙂

What have we been learning?

  • To develop our confidence and speaking/ singing voices in front of an audience.
  • To know the Christmas story and why Christians celebrate Christmas.
  • To increase the range of songs that we know and are able to sing.
  • To work together to produce a shared end result.
  • To use the Makaton signs that we’ve learnt alongside the songs.

How can you continue the learning at home?

  • Encourage your child to continue singing the songs and other songs that they know.
  • To talk about the Christmas story and see if your child can remember it. Can they remember any of the other stories we’ve learnt about celebrations in different cultures? (Rama and Sita- Divali)
  • Allow your child to speak to different people, such as tram conductors or people in shops, to continue to develop their confidence when speaking to unfamiliar people.
