World Book Day 2018

After all the snow which fell we were lucky in school that we decided to celebrate World Book Day on Friday the 2nd. We didn’t have all the children in but those who came did a great job of decorating our door with Onyx class’s favourite book. We had talked earlier in the week about which book was our favourite and Love Monster was the stand out winner.

The children who were in school got busy making a Love  Monster for our door.

We were very excited when Miss Parker told us that she had tweeted a picture of our door and Rachel Bright, the author, loved it!!! She loved it so much she retweeted it and shared it with all her followers.

Your child should have brought home a World Book Day token either on Friday or Monday. You can use it to get a special £1 book for FREE. You can get these at a number of different shops. You can also use the token to get £1 off a book, including at our Book Fair which is now rearranged for March 19th-23rd in school.

We hope you get to use your special book token. Don’t forget to let us know which book you choose.

Books at Bedtime Week 3

For the last week of Books at Bedtime we had a whole celebration day in school. We were all allowed to come to school in our pyjamas! There was a special assembly which Miss Varley held in the main hall with all of FS2 and KS1. Our Grand Prize Winner was announced and she chose a whole collection of Julia Donaldson books as her prize. IMG_0371

We had a storytelling session with our school storyteller Andy Messer which everyone loved. We were all laughing out loud at the story although one part was much scarier.

We also got to have a storytelling session with hot chocolate in the classroom and share some of our favourite stories. One of our friend’s favourite books was in Polish so we had to ask his sister to come and read it to us because Miss Parker struggled with all the pronunciation! We noticed there were lots of books on dinosaurs- maybe we’ll have to learn about them soon…

Thanks and well done to all who took part in the Books at Bedtime competition. Don’t forget to keep reading bedtime stories with your children every night as part of your child’s bedtime routine.

Safety Week 2018

It was Safety Week in school recently. We use the TASC wheel in school so we decided this would be a good week to introduce it to FS2.

We asked the children what they knew about safety and they started to talk about Road Safety. We’d started talking about this on our visit to Build a Bear Workshop and some of the children remembered what we said. We also talked about it more on our visit to the Library.

We asked the children how they wanted to represent their thinking about road safety and how they were going to teach some of the other children what they were learning. There were lots of fabulous ideas, from making cars to traffic light costumes, to making a road safety video. You can see a couple of them here…

Look out in our classroom for the finished products and you can see more in our books.

We also had a visit from some Y3 children who had been on Road Safety sessions. They came to tell us what they had been learning.

We had such a great week and the children really surprised us with their amazing ideas using the TASC wheel. We can’t wait to do another TASC project soon.

Books At Bedtime Week 1

Every child in Foundation Stage and Key Stage One was given a Books at Bedtime card last Wednesday. They had to read a Bedtime Story with their grown up every night this week and write down which one they had read. Today was the day we had to bring them back to school. We put them all in a big pile, closed our eyes and picked a winner. Look who won!!!

She got to go and see Mrs Ainsley and choose a book from the box. It was hard choosing from so many great books but finally she settled on a dinosaur book.

Don’t forget to read your Bedtime Stories this week and you’ll get to go in the prize draw next Wednesday if you bring your card back to school. Then the week after its the big Prize Draw.

Our Pride of Prince Edward

IMG_9277

We were all very proud in Onyx Class when the last Pride of Prince Edward for 2017 was awarded to one of us. To be awarded the Pride of Prince Edward you have to demonstrate excellent behaviour and attitudes to learning throughout your time at school. That is certainly true of this young man. It is a pleasure to have him in Onyx Class and he is a great role model to all his peers.

A huge well done and we can’t wait to see who the next Pride of Prince Edward will be from Onyx Class. There is sure to be another soon.

Yum, Yum, Christmas Dinner

It was our Christmas Dinner today. Nearly everybody in the class tried a school dinner which was great to see. We have to try hard to use our knife and fork even when it gets a bit tricky.

We even had some special visitors come and join us for Christmas Dinner. The PCSOs came to catch up with us and enjoy their dinner as well. You might even spot Miss Parker’s mum as well who came to share the occasion with us.

We all agreed that our dinner was delicious and now those of us who celebrate Christmas are really looking forward to Christmas dinner at our homes over Christmas.

What we have been learning?

  • To use a knife and fork.
  • To try new foods.
  • To talk to members of our community.

How can you continue the learning at home?

  • Encourage your child to use their knife and fork when they eat at home.
  • Encourage your child to try a range of foods at home and to eat school dinners each day.

Our Christmas Workshop

We had a wonderful time on Friday morning when our parents and carers came in for Christmas Workshop. It was great to see so many of you there joining in with the children as they made their Christmas crafts. Some of the children from Garnet class came to say hi as well and we got to go and have a look around Garnet class.

Can you remember the different activities you got to try?

  • Christmas Pudding biscuits
  • Decorate a bauble
  • Making Reindeer Food
  • Making paper chains
  • Colouring a Christmas Picture
  • Making a Christmas Tree ornament

We’d love to see some photos of your decorations around your house. Please send them to us on the class email address.

We’d also love to see if you’ve made anything else at home. Look at this great creation which was made at home and brought into school. The children even went to show Mr Siezckarek.

A huge thank you to everyone who came and made the event such as success 🙂
