The last week of school was one of our busiest yet….. in between the party and Father Christmas’s visit we had some special jobs to do. We’d looked at the Christmas story and talked about the gifts given by the kings and also how Christians believe that Jesus was a gift to the world from God. Everyone was very excited to talk about the gifts they would be receiving. Miss Parker and the teachers asked us what gifts we would be giving. We decided to use the TASC wheel to help us plan our activity and work out what we needed to do if we wanted to make gifts for our grown ups. After talking about it and all the possible ideas the children all decided they wanted to bake something. They did however want to bake different things so we got into groups based on what we wanted to bake. There were buns, gingerbread men, mince pies and jam tarts baked.
Once we’d done the baking some children needed to decorate their baking as well making their own choices about why that looked like.
To go with our gifts we also made some cards. We had to draw something that we thought about linked to Chrsitmas and our grown ups. Everyone thought of their own idea and drew it themselves. We even wrote the inside of our cards indepedently so our grown ups could see how much progress we’d made during Autumn term. Here are just a few of them for you to see.
We also went to find different people who worked in school to give them a Christmas present to say thank you. We talked about the different reasons we give presents and how giving people presents made them feel. We were pleased when we made people smile.
Then on our last afternoon we were all a little bit sad because we couldn’t find our elf but he had left us a surprise. It soon cheered us up and we were exicited to see what it was. Santa had sent us a present early because we’d been so good while the elf had been with us. We got a copy of the book Zog by Julia Donaldson and also our very own Zog toy for the classroom. The elf told us Zog was on TV over the Chrsitmas Holidays so he thought we’d like to read the book first. Everybody loved it! 🙂
We’ve been practising our Christmas Performance for weeks!
We started practising in the Studio and learning the songs in classrooms then we got to go to the Hall and see where we would do it for real with our families watching.
We got better and better learning to remember our words until the grown ups didn’t need to remind us at all. We remembered our words and acting all by ourselves. We didn’t even need the grown ups to remind us when it was our turn to move.
We did a dress rehearsal when the Y1 and Y3 children to see us and help us practise at saying our words in front of an audience. We also got to try on our costumes for the first time.
Then it was the big day and it was time to show our families our Christmas Show- Whoops a Daisy Angel.
When we went in the big hall it was packed. We ran out of chairs and some of our friends and families had to stand up! It didn’t put us off though…. we were amazing! All the grown ups in school were so so proud of us for putting on our show and remembering all of our words.
Rightly so, our families and friends gave us a MASSIVE clap at the end to say well done and show how proud they were of us. Some of them said we were amazed that we were so confident to stand up in front of all of those people and speak.
Our fun day wasn’t over there though….. Wednesday was also Christmas Dinner day! We were all very excited to try our Christmas dinner and even the teachers had one as well.
You might spot some other school adults in the picture as well. We thought our school Christmas Dinner was yummy.
Our Christmas celebrations are well underway and we can’t wait for some more Christmassy excitement 🙂 We’ll be letting you know what we’ve been up to soon…..
Big thanks to all the parents carers who supported our Performance by not only attending on the day but also providing items for costumes when we asked.
We did our Christmas Nativity for our grown ups today and we did such an amazing job. Everybody remembered their lines and their acting. We all did a fabulous job of singing all the songs. Well done everyone!

It was a very exciting weekend for some of the children in Onyx Class over the weekend of the 24/25th June because they celebrated Eid in their homes. They couldn’t wait to tell us all about it.
They wanted to show us the way that Muslims pray so came to the front and showed us.
We decided to get the prayer mats out so everyone could see them and they continued to show us how to pray the Muslim way. We found out in our information books that it is called Salah. It is one of the 5 Pillars of Islam and Muslims must pray 5 times a day.
We also found some books written in Arabic writing and learnt that in Arabic you read the writing right to left not like in English which is left to right. We already know some Arabic from when we do our register in different languages but we learnt how to say Happy Eid as well.

Eid Mumbarak- Happy Eid
We were very lucky because one of our families brought us in some Eid treats to try. Can you remember which one you tried?
We also read lots of books from our school library about Ramadan, Islam and Eid. Some of them were non-fiction books, some of them were fiction like this one. They all taught us all more about Eid though. We also watched the CBeebies programme Let’s Celebrate to find out what else happens at Eid. Click here to find the clips we watched.
While we talked about Eid and Islam we also talked about some of the other children’s experiences of religion. We found out some children prayed in different ways and went to Church instead of Mosque.

- Talk to your child about the celebrations which are important in your family.
