Saying Thank You to our Mums

We welcomed our Mums to a special Mother’s Day Performance on the Monday after Mother’s Day. It was lovely to see so many mums, nannans, aunties and big sisters there. We had to say no male relatives because they get to come to when it is Father’s Day.

We invited all our female relatives to school to listen to the special songs we’d been learning to sing to them. There was a Mother’s Day song and then our favourite one Skidamarink. Here are the words- can you try to and sing them at home?

Skidamarink- a -rink- a rink,

Skidamarink- a- doo, I love you!

Skidamarink-a-rink-a-rink,

Skidamarink- a- doo, I love you!

I love you in the morning and in the afternoon,

I love you in the evening, and underneath the moon,

Oh, Skidamarink- a -rink- a rink,

Skidamarink- a- doo, I love you!

I love you, too, boo boo bi-do!

When we’d finished singing our songs we gave our cards and gifts to our mums. We’d made cards with blossom trees on using broccoli and our fingers. Can you tell your grown up how you made your card?  We worked really hard to write a message for our mums in our cards. There were some lovely messages and the children sounded out and used their tricky word knowledge to write them down. We also had to make sure we were using our neatest handwriting.  We also worked hard to make bracelets for our mums from salt dough beads. We had to make the salt dough in the colours we thought our mums would like the best. Then it went in the oven for a long time to bake and dry out. When they were ready we chose the beads we thought our mums would like best for their bracelet.

Our mums had big smiles on their faces when they got their presents so we hope they liked them. Thanks everyone for coming 🙂

What we have been learning?

  • To increase the repertoire of songs that we know.
  • To sing in front of an audience.
  • To use different painting techniques to make a card.
  • To follow the instructions to make salt dough.
  • To use our fine motor skills to make the beads and thread them on the bracelet.

How can you continue the learning at home?

  • Sing different songs that you know and try to learn some new ones.
  • Make a card for someone else and try to write the message yourself.
  • Can you make some Salt Dough at home and use it make some different shapes? The recipe we used to make our beads is here.

      • Thank you for your reply.
We learnt songs to sing to our mums as well in assembly and we gave them a special card that we had made, some paper flowers and a basket full of delicious chocolates.
        Love from Pearl Class xx
