During Safety Week we celebrated Safer Internet Day to raise awareness of staying safe when we were using the Internet. First we talked about all the different places we can use the Internet. Can you think of anymore? Which ones do you use at your house with your children?
We read a story which helped us think about staying safe on the Internet and about what is true or not.
We watched a video about keeping our details safe on the Internet and not telling anyone them. If you want to watch it you can find it here or on the class Purple Mash page.
We’re always talking about passwords in school and the children know we have to keep them a secret. We have our own passwords for Purple Mash and websites such a Phonics Play.
We also talk about what to do if we’re using the Internet and we see something we don’t like. There’s lots of amazing things to do on the Internet but not all of it is good. In school we have a firewall set up so unsuitable sites are blocked. Do you have your parental controls switched on at home to keep your children safe?
It is important that you reinforce these vital messages at home too. The Internet is a wonderful resource but can also be dangerous if not used properly. It is a part of the children’s everyday life so we need to make sure they are taught how to stay safe themselves and what to do if anything happens.
